It’s hard to go about daily life right now without getting caught up in the seriousness of the global climate. There’s so much to debate and disagree about — it seems dissension and tension are our constant companions.
But now, perhaps more than ever, it’s important to do our parts to ensure that unity, hope and love remain in primary focus. Each person has a role to play in this. We all have a unique obligation to contribute our best to this world, to show up as our best selves in every way possible. Right now, that means doing whatever we can to bridge the divides that so often are created between us.
At CLI, we know we can’t change the world with one action. We know that one day of promoting inclusion and the idea that everyone is, in fact, worthy of the same chance to achieve their full potential, will not suddenly make the world devoid of all prejudice. But that’s why we don’t stop at one day. We work to educate the public and promote acceptance and inclusion every day, because we know that nothing will change overnight. But we also know that, with persistance, change is possible.
Everyone has a role to play in making the world a better place. As hopeless as it may seem at times, as long as we are able to stand up for peace and unity, we can effect change.
Inclusion means making sure everyone is given the chance to live their lives to the fullest. It’s our mission to make that a reality for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Frederick. This might be just a minor goal in the grand scheme of global change, but it’s something. And it’s something we’re passionate about.
