There’s a lot of exciting things happening here at CLI right now. Here are a couple updates:

  • We started a Facebook group to serve as an extension of the monthly Community Forum Night. This group will be used by businesses, nonprofits, agencies, and community members to help build a stronger community. Hosting a fundraiser? Post about it here. Looking to volunteer? Post about it here. Are you a business looking to get more involved in the community? This page is for you too!
  • We’re really trying to expand our advocacy efforts to reach people in new and different ways. Advocacy is super important to what we do. Providing the services we offer is important, but if we’re not steadily working to remove the stigma surrounding disability, our efforts won’t really go that far. We’re very excited to be offering a seminar at C. Burr Artz Library on Wednesday, August 23, called “Supporting Inclusion in Modern Society.” This free panel discussion will engage participants in learning about intellectual and developmental disabilities — what those terms mean, the proper language to use when referring to those disabilities, and how we can foster a more inclusive society. Refreshments will be provided. Check out this flyer for details!

With summer almost over, we’re looking forward to the last few weeks of the season — and the exciting things we have coming up this fall!
