On March 25th, 2025, our CEO, Michael Planz, along with Matt Cora, our Quality Assurance and Information Systems Administrator, Jena Ramcharran, our Community Outreach and Quality Assurance Coordinator, and two self-advocates, participated in a training session using the curriculum by the Maryland Department of Disabilities. The training, titled “Law Enforcement and People with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities,” was held at the Frederick Police Training Center.
The session was enjoyable and informative for both the cadets and the advocates. During the training, Starr and April, the self-advocates, role-played different scenarios where police officers would interact with individuals who have developmental disabilities. In these exercises, the cadets learned how to use active listening, practice patience, and adjust their communication and body language to effectively interact with people with disabilities. After each roleplay, the self-advocates provided valuable feedback.
We would like to extend a thank you to the Frederick Police Department and the 68th Frederick Policy Academy Class for hosting us!
