Community Living is proud to be able to participate in #GivingTuesday this year.
#GivingTuesday, held on Nov. 29, is an initiative started by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation in 2012. Immediately following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a social media-driven campaign that encourages global acts of support directed to specific causes and organizations. Thousands of organizations participate in this holiday of giving each year. Last year, the event saw 700,000 online donors across 71 countries.
Take a minute to take in those numbers. They’re truly amazing. And as if they aren’t impactful enough, consider this: Last year, $116.7 million were raised through #GivingTuesday. How incredible is that? In just 24 hours, hundreds of thousands of people came together to make a difference.
#GivingTuesday isn’t about one specific organization or cause, and there’s no pressure to give a certain amount. It’s a day to give whatever you can in support of whatever organizations mean the most to you.
This year, Community Living will be participating in an effort to raise funds for a van. Transportation is a huge part of what we do. Many of the people we serve rely on the transportation we provide to travel to medical appointments, jobs and job interviews, recreational activities, and more. Transportation, for many of the folks here at CLI, means inclusion. And we cannot overstate the importance of inclusion in our society.
This year, we hope you’ll consider Community Living when you make your #GivingTuesday donations. Take a look at the video below for more information about #GivingTuesday here at CLI.
